Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)
Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is a white coloured lightweight closed cell material with stable thermal properties based on entrapped air. The board has a typical thermal conductivity of circa 0.038 w/mk and is used in a variety of applications within Flooring, Walls, Roofs and Panel Construction.
Fire performance is Euroclass F, however installed classification will be better as the product will be protected by other elements of the construction.
A typical application is within under floor heating systems where a board with a grid pattern layer of polypropylene provides a visual guide for the laying of the heating pipes. A screed is then laid over the insulation that has the pipes clipped to it.
Better performing EPS boards, silvery grey in colour are available these would typically have a thermal conductivity of circa 0.030 W/mk
